Could Sprinting Really
Be The Greatest
of All Calf Exercises?
In the fitness world...

Calves are that one weird muscle that for some odd reason...

A lot of guys just can't seem to figure out.

Guys who by all other standards, have damn near perfect physiques...

Somehow, still find it next to impossible to make their calves grow despite their best efforts.

So in this post...

We're going to take a look at a method of training calves that few people have ever considered..

And that is... sprinting.

So here we go. First up...

The Real Reason Why Your Calves Aren't Growing

Assuming first off, that you're actually training them consistently...

The most likely reason why you're calves aren't looking the way you want them to...

Is that you're simply not stressing them in the way they were designed to function.

You see, the specific muscle in the calf that grows in size (known as the gastrocnemius)...

Is designed solely for the purpose of high intensity, high speed, high impact movements...

Such as jumping...and yes...sprinting...

Where it faces forces as high as 5 times your body weight...

But only for a tiny fraction of a second, as your foot strikes the ground.

So, if you're only training your calves for endurance...

Which is the main function we commonly associate with out calves...

Then they won't grow in the way that you want them to.

Instead, it is the soleus muscle that will get the vast majority of the workout...

Which will build definition along the outer half of calf, but it won't build the size you're looking for.

Why Gym Calves Often Look Freakish

If you've ever seen bodybuilders with unnaturally large calves...

You might have thought to yourself at some point...

That there's something about those calves that just don't look right.

While big muscles generally look attractive...

These types of calves have something about them that just look a bit scary to most people's eye.

And here's why:

You see, the problem with traditional gym workouts is...

The only way to stress the gastrocnemius effectively is with heavy load, slow contractions, as you commonly see.

And while this does work great for building size...

It's not so great, for both aesthetics, and functionality.

Which makes sense, because they aren't being used in the way they weren't designed for.

No one picks up 200 lbs with their calves. They use their quads and glutes. Because that's what they're meant for.

Why Sprinting is the Ultimate Solution

The only way to build up the gastrocnemius in a natural, aesthetically pleasing way...

Is by using it as it was intended, for either jumping or sprinting.

And this explains why is why all sprinters seem to have such perfectly sculpted calves...

Without even really paying them any attention.

You see, the faster you run...

The greater the force that your lower leg muscles must absorb each time you strike the ground.

In addition, because everything happens faster...

The amount of time you have to absorb that force is shorter as well.

Combine these two factors together...

And the end result is G forces as much as 5x your body weight...

That must be absorbed on a single leg, each time you strike the ground.

Which means, if you weigh 150 lbs, that's a whopping 750 lbs of force from each stride.

And it is this exact type of stress, placed upon your calves on a regular basis...

That will allow your gastrocnemius to grow in a way that is both aesthetically pleasing...

And functional for all types of athletic movements.
