How To Build
Bigger Arms
Through Sprinting
If you ever watched the Olympic 100m finals on TV...

You surely noticed the curious fact that every single runner in the lineup...

For some strange reason, had arms that were equally as impressive as their legs...

And just like everyone else watching, you've surely wondered to yourself...

How exactly does this happen?

Well the answer to this exact question will be the focus for today's post.

So here we go.  First up...

Why Joggers Have Skinny Arms

The second part of this puzzle that makes things even more puzzling...

Is the fact that when you look at longer distance runners...

Their legs, while not as impressive as the sprinters, still look pretty damn good overall.

But their arms on the other hand, are surprsingly skinny in comparison.

Now here's the explanation for this apparent inconsistency:

You see, whenever you run, at low speeds or high speeds...

The motion of your legs creates a rotational force that attempts to pull your torso from side to side with each stride.

However, in order to keep your torso remaining stable and forward-facing...

Some part of your upper body needs to generate an equally strong rotational force in the opposite direction...

To neutralize the force from the legs.

At jogging speeds, this is accomplished almost entirely by your core...

As the oblique abs stretch and contract in opposition to the legs.

Which is why when you see joggers run, the arms seem to do as little work as possible.

And with such a minimal amount of effort, it's no surprise they don't grow.

With Sprinting However...

When the legs are cycling at maximum speed, with maximum intensity...

The amount of opposing force that the core can generate is simply not enough to keep the torso stable.

It's not even close.

So to get the job done, the arms now jump in to help the core in neutralizing the force.

And yet, with the average person's overall physique...

The arms and abs are often not nearly strong enough to neutralize the force from the legs...

So the legs must essentially limit their own top speed...

Since the upper body simply can't keep up.

Now...

The Result of Sprint Training on Arms

When you first begin sprint training in the state we just described...

The arms (as well as core) well be working at 100% effort each time you run...

In an effort to keep up with the legs.

And you'll notice this fact to be self-evident...

Because once you start approaching the point of failure...

You'll notice that the arms will always run out of gas before the legs.

As you continue to train over the weeks and months...

Not only will the arms and core get bigger and stronger...

But they will also allow you to run faster, because more and more...

They will be able to keep pace with the legs.

And that, in a nutshell...

Is the reason why sprinters have such surprisingly jacked arms.
